Day 1
Chiang Rai - Mae Chan
78 km / 820m total ascent
Your first day’s ride kicks off by pedaling straight out of Chiang Rai. The main road out of town is not busy, and worry not, it doesn't last long as you'll soon be pedaling on cute little back roads.
The itinerary begins with gentle terrain to the Black House (Baan Dam Museum) before gradually ascending towards Nang Lae Nai with its gentle river and nice cafes, offering increasingly impressive views of the lush northern Thai countryside.
You'll later ride a short unavoidable stretch on the main road (slightly longer during rainy season to avoid sketchy dirt trails), before hitting back the rural roads again.
As you approach your destination of the day, the scenery transforms and you'll soon pass the Choui Fong Tea plantations, a beautiful place to visit and have a break.
After a little more riding, you’ll settle into your beautiful hotel, relax, and savor the tranquility of the hills.
Day 2
Mae Chan - Phamee
43 km / 1,300m total ascent
Gear up for a challenging but rewarding day of cycling!
The road to Phamee is filled with breathtaking climbs and some of the most stunning landscapes of the region. Start your day with the crisp mountain air as you pass through idyllic backroads and head towards the majestic Doi Tung Royal Villa, a serene stop to admire manicured gardens and royal history.
From there, the ride takes you to Pha Hi Viewpoint, where the view will make every uphill pedal worth it. Finally, arrive at Phamee, a welcoming hill tribe village nestled in the mountains. End your day soaking in the peaceful surroundings and reflecting on a beautiful day.
NOTE: You have several route options today, depending on how much climbing challenge you want. Our favorite strikes the perfect balance between climbing challenge and amazing views, leaving you plenty of time for stopping in cafes and villages en route.
Day 3
Phamee - Mae Sai - Chiang Saen
51 km / 610m total ascent
Today, it’s time to descend from the mountains into the valley, trading steep climbs for smooth, rolling roads.
Along the way, make sure to explore the Mae Sai Market, a vibrant trading hub that reflects the rich tapestry of cultures in the region. This bustling market thrives on its close ties to neighboring Myanmar, offering a fascinating blend of Thai and Burmese influences. From handcrafted goods and gemstones to unique street food, it’s a lively meeting point of traditions and commerce that truly captures the spirit of cross-border exchange.
You'll then ride through flat farmland until concluding in Chiang Saen, a historical town located at the Golden Triangle, where Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar converge.
Explore ancient temples or enjoy a riverside meal while soaking up the unique cultural blend of this iconic region.
Day 4
Chiang Saen - Chiang Khong
68 km / 620m total ascent
Your Mekong journey begins today, following the river’s edge through picturesque countryside. You start with a long 20km of main road – unavoidable but not too busy - which you'll be able to break after just a few kilometers with the visit of the elegant Wat Phra That Pha Ngao, a complex of several temples, all in different styles and absolutely beautiful.
The route to Chiang Khong is very rural and scenic, with opportunities to stop at charming riverside cafes and restaurants along the way.
In Chiang Khong, wander through the town’s quaint streets and old town area to experience its unique riverside charm.
Day 5
Chiang Khong - Phu Chi Fah
89 km / 2,190m total ascent
This leg of the journey transitions from riverside to rugged mountains.
Begin with a semi-relaxed ride along the Mekong before heading inland for some serious climbing. The views along the way are nothing short of spectacular, with endless opportunities to stop and admire the mountainous terrain.
Make time to visit Phu Duen Coffee Farm for a local pick-me-up, or venture for a hike to Doi Pha Tang or Phu Chi Fa View if the legs - and time - still allow it.
End your day surrounded by nature at Phu Chi Fa, where the cooler air and serene vistas make for a perfect retreat.
NOTE: We can arrange a transfer for you to skip the main climb, to make the day easier.
Day 6
