About this tour

Discover Thailand’s most amazing UNESCO cultural sites, with a pinch of local backroads and peaceful country life few people really get to experience.

Day by day itinerary

Day 1

Bangkok - Laplae
10-20 km / Flat stage

Depending on the arrangement, you will leave Bangkok today by train, plane or private van to reach the charming little country town of Laplae – morning or afternoon.

According to the time you reach, you may explore the town by bike and discover its traditional houses, the local temple, and why not take a ride to the nearby waterfalls. Busy with local life on weekends, they get much quieter during the week.

At night, take a walk and go get excited with local food specialties such as the Laplae crepe.

Day 2

Laplae - Ban Na Ton Chan
50 km / 280m total ascent

Your cycling trip really starts today!

Head out of your accommodation and leave on small back roads (and the occasional dirt road), past temples and through rice paddies. You’ll start discovering a quiet countryside so typical of Thailand…

You will reach later in the day the amazing community village of Ban Na Ton Chan. You will have the rest of the day to visit the surrounding rice fields, learn about manual traditional yarn dying and see how weaving is done on a traditional loom. Get ready for a special dinner tonight, prepared just for us by our lovely hosts!

The accommodation is basic, but we believe the quality of the experience makes it well worth it. Do feel free to bring earplugs though if you are sensitive to early morning roosters.

Day 3

Ban Na Ton Chan - Si Satchanalai
45 km / Flat stage

Today, you venture further off the beaten path, taking some of Thailand's most remote yet stunning dirt roads.

You ride through fields of bright green rice, sugar cane and hamlets towards Si Satchanalai, known as the "city of good people," established around 1250 when Sukhothai monks wanted to find more spiritual peace than the former capital could offer and home to magnificent temples that are part of UNESCO's World Heritage.

Built strategically along the Yom River, it served as a northern stronghold and a place for spiritual guidance, housing numerous temples, stupas, and Buddha statues. Its layout and architecture were designed to reflect Buddhist cosmology, with intricate temples symbolizing spiritual enlightenment, and the city became an influential cultural hub, renowned for its artistry, especially in Sangkhalok ceramics, which were exported throughout Southeast Asia.

Today, these beautiful ceramics are still crafted like they were 700 years ago and we strongly encourage you to visit the nearby pottery workshop.

Day 4

Si Satchanalai - Bang Khlang
48 km / Flat stage

Leaving your hotel after breakfast, your ride peacefully along the Ping river towards the vibrant provincial town of Sawankhalok further South.

This is a perfect place to visit a typical local market with selling fresh produce from the early morning, to have a good coffee and to discover the beautiful street art. Worth taking the time strolling through the streets here…

After a long break, you keep riding to the remote village of Bang Khlang where the delightful Tong will open the doors to her house and take you through the nearby community see rural life unfold before your eyes. If time allows, a great cooking class with your host is a great option as she loves to share her passion.

Day 5

Bang Khlang - Sukhothai
35 km / Flat stage

You won't want to leave after being hosted with such warmth. Yet, you set off after a great breakfast with some delicious homemade bread towards Sukhothai, Thailand's first capital. The 18th century is often regarded as the zenith of Siam, with its influence extending to Burma in the west, Cambodia in the east, and down to Malaysia in the south.

You soon reach your comfortable hotel where you’ll likely enjoy a dip in the pool. Enjoy a relaxed afternoon, go for a massage, get some great food in… and in the evening, enjoy a few snacks at the roadside market with its laid-back atmosphere.

Day 6

Sukhothai
15-25 km / Flat stage

The day is dedicated to exploring Sukhothai and its historical treasures. Set off for a peaceful stroll among the ruins of the ancient city, immersing ourselves in its richly anecdotal history.

Sukhothai flourished as the capital from the 13th to the 15th century, a period known for its innovations in governance, art, and culture. It was during this era that the Thai alphabet was created, laying the foundations for the modern Thai language. Sukhothai's legacy is evident in its architectural masterpieces such as the temples of Wat Mahathat and Wat Si Chum, which continue to inspire awe and respect to this day.

In the afternoon, we suggest you try your hand at making traditional amulets with a descendant from a Royal Mahut, learn the culture and listen to stories… Captivating for all ages!

Day 7

Sukhothai and onward journey

Take your time, enjoy your hotel or head out for a sunrise ride to see the views from atop Wat Saphan Hin.

Your cycling trip ends here but we would be more than happy to help you arrange the rest of your journey. Or we could drive you back to Bangkok and why not, stop in the charming provincial town of Uthai Thani on the way?
